12, 2005 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- A three-goal halftime advantage held up as visiting Rowan University defeated host Washington College, 10-7, in a non-conference women's lacrosse game this afternoon at Shriver Field. The Profs improved to 5-5 with the win, while the Shorewomen fell to 3-10 with the loss. The Profs took a 4-1 lead after the first half, outshooting the Shorewomen, 15-10, over the first 30 minutes. The Shorewomen scored two of the first three goals in the second half to cut the lead to 5-3, but Rowan then ran off four consecutive goals to go up, 9-3, when Katie Loomis found Maggie Goodman for a goal with 13:02 remaining in the second half. Washington then mounted a rally, going on a 4-1 run that was capped off by a free-position goal by junior midfielder/attacker Erin Bollinger (Perry Hall, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) that cut the lead to 10-7 with 3:42 left in the game. After a save by Katherine Rowland with 3:13 left in the game, the Profs ran off over two minutes of game clock before turning the ball back over to Washington with 1:10 remaining. The Shorewomen failed to get a shot off on the ensuing possession and the Profs held on for the win. Goodman paced the Profs with four goals and two assists, while Liz McGough added two goals and one assist and Caitlin Meseroll added two goals. Loomis contributed a goal and an assist, while Jessica Prince also scored for Rowan. Sophomore attacker/midfielder Melanie Ruppert (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) led the Shorewomen with two goals and one assist, while Bollinger and sophomore attacker/midfielder Megan Block (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis) each scored two goals. Sophomore attacker/midfielder Lauren Sampson (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis) added one goal and senior attacker Lindsey Eichner (Raritan, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) had one assist. Washington outshot Rowan, 15-9, in the second half and, 25-24, in the game. Rowan goalkeeper Katherine Rowland made 11 saves in the win for the Profs. The Shorewomen did control 13 of the game's 19 draws. Freshman midfielder Jenna Gouck (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) tallied a game-high four draw controls for Washington. The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against Dickinson. |
