March 24, 2005 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Visiting Muhlenberg College jumped out to a 13-2 halftime lead en route to a 17-7 Centennial Conference women's lacrosse victory over host Washington College this afternoon at Shriver Field. The Mules improved to 4-2 overall and 1-1 in Centennial play with the win, while the Shorewomen slipped to 2-4 and 0-1 with the loss. Muhlenberg held a 5-2 lead before firing in eight unanswered goals in the final 13:05 of the first half to build the big halftime lead. The Mules twice led by 12 goals in the second half. Courtney Tapkas scored four goals and assisted on two other for Muhlenberg, while Christa Carlstrand finished with four goals and one assist. Shannon Donohue added three goals and one assist, while Taylor Armstrong tallied two goals and one assist. Jessica Geiger and Amy Lanning each scored one goal and recorded two assists, while Steph Light added two goals. Diana Bleakley made 12 saves in goal for Muhlenberg, becoming the Mules' all-time leader in career saves in the process. Freshman midfielder Jenna Gouck (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) scored two goals and assisted on another and senior attacker Lindsey Eichner (Raritan, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) tallied one goal and two assists to pace the Washington offense. Sophomore attacker/midfielder Megan Block (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis) added two goals, while sophomore attacker/midfielder Melanie Ruppert (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) and sophomore attacker/midfielder Caitlin Beane (University Park, MD/Elizabeth Seton) each scored one goal. Senior defender Tarra Boulden (Newark, DE/Tower Hill) scooped up a game-high seven ground balls for the Shorewomen. The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against Bryn Mawr. |
