Ducks Pull Out 13-12 Victory

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Visiting Stevens Tech, the 19th-ranked team in Division III, posted a 13-12 triple-overtime victory over host Washington College this afternoon at Shriver Field. Rebecca Quinn scored the game-winner, her sixth goal of the game, 30 seconds into the third extra period.

The Ducks (6-1) jumped out to a 6-2 lead before the Shorewomen (3-2) rallied to pull within one, at 6-5, by halftime. Washington continued its surge to open the second half, as sophomore midfielder Emmy Hyde (Gaithersburg, MD/Watkins Mill) scored two goals and senior attacker Casey Sawma (Conway, MA/Stoneleigh-Burnham) scored once to give the Shorewomen an 8-6 lead with 24:08 to play. Stevens ended the run when Juliet Pullis scored with 23:39 to play to cut the lead to one.

Washington senior attacker Janet Studdiford (Wyndmoor, PA/Springside School) scored off a feed from junior attacker Lindsey Eichner (Raritan, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) with 22:00 left on the clock, but Pullis scored again, this time off an assist from Leigh Shahbazian, with 19:57 to go. Eichner found Studdiford again with 15:17 to play to give the Shorewomen a 10-8 advantage.

The Ducks then went on a three-goal run. Quinn scored on a free position with 14:49 left, Valerie Barnhart scored an unassisted goal with 11:06 to play, and Quinn scored on another free position with 9:21 remaining to give Stevens an 11-10 lead. Neither team would score again until Studdiford fired in a goal off another Eichner assist with 25 seconds left in regulation to force overtime.

Stevens scored the only goal of the first extra period as Lindy Gibbons scored off an assist from Barnhart, but the Shorewomen evened things up in the second overtime as Eichner found Studdiford with 1:12 to play to force the sudden-death third overtime. Quinn sprinted from the side of the goal and fired one in from the right side of the goalie for the game-winner.

Quinn's six goals were a game high. Barnhart added three goals and two assists for Stevens, while Pullis scored two goals. Malanko Misilo recorded a game-high five caused turnovers for the Ducks, while goalie Melissa Scott made 13 saves.

Eichner led the Shorewomen with two goals and a game-high six assists. Studdiford finished with four goals and one assist, while Sawma and Hyde each scored two goals.
