17, 2004 CARLISLE, PA -- Junior attacker Lindsey Eichner (Raritan, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) broke the school record for assists in a season and senior defender Diana Martin (Boothwyn, PA/Chichester) broke the school record for caused turnovers in a season as visiting Washington College cruised to a 17-9 win over Dickinson in a Centennial Conference women's lacrosse game this afternoon. The Shorewomen improved to 8-4 overall and 5-2 in conference play with the win, while the Red Devils slipped to 4-7 and 1-5. The Shorewomen jumped out to a 9-1 lead just 18 minutes into the game. Washington held a 13-4 lead at halftime and scored the first four goals of the second half to extend the lead to 17-4. Dickinson finished the game on a five-goal run. Eichner finished with five goals and two assists in the game, giving her a school-record 40 assists this season. Senior attacker Janet Studdiford (Wyndmoor, PA/Springside School) set the previous record of 38 just last season, a record Eichner tied last Saturday at Franklin & Marshall. Martin recorded four caused turnovers in the game to boost her season total to 35. She broke the school record of 34 set by Mandy Pare' in 1999. Studdiford contributed two goals and five assists in the win, while senior attacker Casey Sawma (Conway, MA/Stoneleigh-Burnham) had five goals and one assist. Sawma's second goal of the game was her 200th career point. Senior midfielder Erin Alessi (Baldwin, MD/Notre Dame Prep) tallied three goals, while senior midfielder Minta Sayres (East Haddam, CT/Westminster School) recorded three assists. Sophomore attacker Erin Bollinger (Perry Hall, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) added one goal and one assist, while freshman midfielder/attacker Melanie Ruppert (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) had one goal and junior midfielder Tarra Boulden (Newark, DE/Tower Hill) had one assist. Lizzie Skolnik led the Red Devils with three goals in the loss. Rachel Mowell added two goals. The Shorewomen are back in action Tuesday with a 7:00 p.m. non-conference game at second-ranked College of New Jersey. |
