Shorewomen Best Denison, 18-10
Sawma Scores Seven Goals

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Senior attacker Casey Sawma (Conway, MA/Stoneleigh-Burnham) scored seven goals and junior attacker Lindsey Eichner (Raritan, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) recorded six assists as the Washington College women's lacrosse team defeated visiting Denison University, 18-10, this afternoon at Shriver Field. The Shorewomen improved to 2-0 with the win, while the Big Red slipped to 0-1 with the loss.

Washington never trailed in the game, jumping out to a 4-0 lead 10 minutes in. Denison then used a 4-1 run to close to within one at 5-4, but the Shorewomen scored five of the final seven goals of the first half to take a 10-6 lead at the break. The Shorewomen led by as many as nine goals in the second half.

Sawma, who also had one assist in the contest, scored her seven goals on just 10 shots. Eichner's six assists were one shy of the school single-game record. She also scored one goal in the game. Washington senior attacker Janet Studdiford (Wyndmoor, PA/Springside School) also had a big game, scoring four goals and assisted on three others.

WC sophomore midfielder Emmy Hyde (Gaithersburg, MD/Watkins Mill) added two goals, while sophomore attacker Erin Bollinger (Perry Hall, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) and senior midfielder Minta Sayres (East Haddam, CT/Westminster School) each tallied one goal and one assist for the Shorewomen . Senior defender Erin Alessi (Baldwin, MD/Notre Dame Prep) and freshman midfielder Melanie Ruppert (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) scored one goal each. Ruppert's goal was the first of her collegiate career.

Molly Lamdin led Denison with three goals. Krissy Frost, Sarah Lowell, and Liz Hollick each scored two goals, while Courtney Abrams added one. Ashley McLeod and Irene Chine each had one assist for the Big Red.

Freshman goalie Mollie Binotto (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) made 10 saves for the Shorewomen, while Carolyn Hicks made nine for Denison.

The Shorewomen return to action Tuesday with a10:00 a.m. game against Lynchburg in Orlando, FL.
