17, 2003 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College women's lacrosse team broke the school record for goals in a single game in a wild 24-16 home win over Villa Julie this afternoon at Shriver Field. The Shorewomen (10-3) led the Mustangs (3-7), 14-7, at the half in a game where the two teams combined for 79 shots. Washington's previous high for goals in a game was 21, set on four occasions - most recently against Bryn Mawr in 2000. Junior attacker Janet Studdiford (Wyndmoor, PA/Springside School) broke the Shorewomen's single-game mark for ground balls by an individual player with nine, surpassing the previous record by one. Studdiford now has 60 ground balls in 2003, one shy of Washington's single-season record. Studdiford also fired in five goals and added four assists for a nine-point afternoon. Junior attacker Casey Sawma (Conway, MA/Stoneleigh-Burnham) matched Studdiford's five goals, while senior attacker Paige Heller (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial) equaled Studdiford's four assists. Senior midfielder Betty Weller (Sudlersville, MD/Queen Anne's County) and sophomore attacker Lindsey Eichner (Raritan, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan Regional) each scored three goals and had one assist for the Shorewomen. Senior midfielder Kristen Bozzella (Harwood, MD/Southern), junior midfielder Minta Sayres (East Haddam, CT/Westminster School) and freshman attacker Erin Bollinger (Perry Hall, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) each scored two goals. Molly McCaffery led Villa Julie with five goals, while Heather Valunas had two goals and three assists. Kim Gorsch added four goals, while Colleen Baughman fired in three. The Shorewomen held a 53-26 advantage in shots in the wild affair. In addition to the 79 shots, the two teams combined for 79 ground balls (49-30, WC) and 63 turnovers (36-27 VJC).
