24, 2003 CENTREVILLE, VA -- The Washington College women's lacrosse team improved to 6-0 this season after holding off a late surge by host Marymount University (5-3) to post a 15-13 win this afternoon at Word of Grace Field in Centreville, VA. Sophomore attacker Lindsey Eichner (Raritan, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) scored four goals and assisted on two others, while junior attacker Janet Studdiford (Wyndmoor, PA/Springside School) scored four goals and had one assist. The Shorewomen, who led 6-5 at halftime, built a 14-9 lead with 7:30 left in the game when Eichner scored off a Studdiford feed. WC maintained that lead until the Saints scored four goals in under three minutes late in the game. Ashley Natoli scored the first of the four on a free position shot with 3:56 left and Kerry Adler finished the spurt with a free position goal with 1:05 left. Washington won the ensuing draw, killing 35 seconds off the clock. Marymount momentarily gained possession on their defensive end of the field before turning the ball over. Studdiford scored as time expired to provide the final margin. Senior midfielder Betty Weller (Sudlersville, MD/Queen Anne's County) scored two goals and had one assist to aid the Shore effort, while junior attacker Casey Sawma (Conway, MA/Stoneleigh-Burnham) tallied two goals and senior midfielder Kristen Bozzella (Harwood, MD/Southern) had two assists. Junior defender Erin Alessi (Baldwin, MD/Notre Dame Prep) contributed one goal and one assist. Bozzella also tallied a team-high three caused turnovers, while senior defender Amanda Hare (Westminster, MD/North Carroll) scooped up a team-high six ground balls and recorded a pair of caused turnovers. Natoli led Marymount with three goals and two assists. Monica Tarantino added three goals, while Jamie Knotts and Beth Harrigan each had two. The Shorewomen will play their first home game of the season Wednesday, taking on Centennial Conference rival McDaniel at 4:00 p.m. BOX SCORE
