2003 GETTYSBURG, PA -- The Washington College women's lacrosse team fell to 13th-ranked Franklin & Marshall, 11-7, in a Centennial Conference semifinal game this afternoon at Gettysburg College. The Shorewomen (12-5) led 3-2 at halftime, but the Diplomats (12-4) outscored WC 9-4 in the second half. F&M scored the first two goals of the game as Alexis O'Meara scored off a Laura Fine pass with 20:14 left in the first and Kristen Foster scored an unassisted goal with 15:30 remaining. The Shorewomen held the Dips off the board the rest of the period, however, while scoring three unanswered goals. Junior attacker Casey Sawma (Conway, MA/Stoneleigh-Burnham) scored with 14:20 left, junior attacker Janet Studdiford (Wyndmoor, PA/Springside School) fired in a goal with 9:41 on the clock, and Sawma scored again off a feed from sophomore attacker Lindsey Eichner (Raritan, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) with 7:59 left before the break. F&M scored the first three goals of the second half to take a 5-3 lead. Alexis O'Meara twice found her sister Allison O'Meara for goals with 26:52 and 23:46 remaining, respectively, and Danielle Jones scored off a free position with 22:05 to play. The Shorewomen answered with a goals by junior midfielder Minta Sayres (East Haddam, CT/Westminster School), who scored off an assist from senior midfielder Betty Weller (Sudlersville, MD/Queen Anne's County) with 21:07 to play, and Sawma, who scored off an Eichner feed with 16:38 remaining, to tie the game at 5-5. The Diplomats then scored six unanswered goals to take control of the game. Fine got things started with two goals just 26 seconds apart, scoring the first one off a feed from Allison O'Meara with 15:38 left and the second with 15:12 to play. Allison O'Meara then scored off an Alexis O'Meara assist with 12:23 left, Jones scored with 11:37 to play, and Eileen Keever scored off an assist from Lauren Paul with 10:49 to play. Alexis O'Meara capped off the run with a goal off a feed from Paul with 9:25 remaining. The Shorewomen scored the final two goals, as Eichner found Sawma with 3:09 left and Studdiford found Sayres with 21 seconds remaining, to provide the final margin. Sawma finished with four goals to lead the Shorewomen in the loss, while Eichner tallied three assists. The O'Mearas led the way for F&M as Alexis finished with two goals and three assists and Allison tallied three goals and one assist. BOX SCORE
