29, 2003 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College women's lacrosse team posted its first-ever shutout this afternoon, blanking visiting Bryn Mawr, 17-0, this afternoon at Shriver Field. The win moves the Shorewomen to a school-record 8-0 start this season, surpassing the 7-0 start of the 1990 team. The eight straight wins also equals the Shorewomen's longest-ever winning streak, previously set by the 1989 team. Senior midfielder Betty Weller (Sudlersville, MD/Queen Anne's County) and junior attacker Casey Sawma (Conway, MA/Stoneleigh-Burnham) each scored four goals in the win for the Shorewomen, now 4-0 in conference play. Senior attacker Paige Heller (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial) recorded five assists. Junior attacker Janet Studdiford (Wyndmoor, PA/Springside School) added two goals and one assist in the win, while freshman midfielder Emmy Hyde (Gaithersburg, MD/Watkins Mill) tallied two goals. Freshman goalie Ashley Crisler (Manchester, MD/North Carroll) made four saves in recording the shutout. Studdiford led WC in both ground balls with seven and draw controls with three. Junior defender Diana Martin (Boothwyn, PA/Chichester) recorded three caused turnovers. Claire Goldsmtih made 22 saves in goal for Bryn Mawr (3-4 overall, 0-2 Centennial). The Shorewomen held wide advantages in shots, 45-8, and in ground balls, 40-15. The Shorewomen will be looking for their school record ninth consecutive win Tuesday when they take on host Swarthmore at 6:00 p.m. BOX SCORE
