Weller's Four Goals Lead WC to Win
Shorewomen Defeat Terror, 12-10

WESTMINSTER, MD -- The Washington College Shorewomen improved to 2-0 in Centennial Conference play today with a 12-10 win at Western Maryland. The Shorewomen are now 3-3 overall this season, while the Green Terror slipped to 3-3 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

The Shorewomen scored four consecutive goals to end the first half and two more to start the second in the win. Western Maryland's Kim Adams gave the Green Terror a 4-3 lead with 12:47 left in the first half before WC scored four times in the finals 10:06 of the first half to jump out to a 7-4 lead at the break. Shorewoman junior midfielder Betty Weller (Sudlersville, MD / Queen Anne's County) started the run for WC, picking up the first of her four goals in the game. Her fourth and final goal was the game-winner with 10:22 left in the second half.

Weller's four goals on six shots led the Shorewoman offense. Freshman attacker Lindsey Eichner (Raritan, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) added one goal and two assists and sophomore attacker Casey Sawma (Conway, MA/Stoneleigh-Burnham), junior attacker Tracy Smet (Glastonbury, CT/Glastonbury) and freshman midfielder Lindsay Stockfisch (Wilton, CT/Wilton) each scored two goals. Sophomore attacker Janet Studdiford (Wyndmoor, PA/Springside School) tallied one goal and one assist to round out the WC scoring.

Sawma, whose first goal of the game was the 2500th in the history of WC women's lacrosse, and Studdiford each scooped up a team-best five ground balls. Sophomore defender Diana Martin (Boothwyn, PA/Chichester) recorded a team-high three caused turnovers.

Erin Mulhern scored three goals and had four assists for the Green Terror. Adams finished with four goals.

The Shorewomen return to action with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game Saturday at Bryn Mawr College.
