6, 2002 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College Shorewomen suffered their first Centennial Conference loss of the season today, falling to visiting Gettysburg, the tenth-ranked team in Division III, by a final of 12-2. The Shorewomen slipped to 5-4 overall and 4-1 in conference play, while the Bullets improved to 8-2 and 4-1. The Shorewomen scored the first goal of the game just 1:17 into the first half when junior attacker Tracy Smet (Glastonbury, CT/Glastonbury) fired in an unassisted marker. The Bullets scored the game's next five goals, however, and went up 5-1 on a goal by senior attacker Anna Haugen (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage) with 13:54 to go in the period. WC broke the run with a goal by sophomore attacker Janet Studdiford (Wyndmoor, PA/Springside School) with 9:27 to go in the period, but it was the last goal the Shorewomen would score on the day. The Bullets led 6-2 at the half and shut out WC, 6-0 in the second period. Senior attacker Becky Bucha (Waccabuc, NY/John Jay) led the Bullets with three goals and an assist. Junior midfielder Megan Murphy (Wilton, CT/Wilton) finished with two goals and an assist, while Haugen and junior defender Erin Pate (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) each scored two goals. Sophomore goalie Liz Borucki (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) made 14 saves for the Bullets. Sophomore Mandy Higdon (Catonsville, MD/Catonsville) made 12 saves for Washington. The Shorewomen return to action with a 4:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home game Tuesday against Haverford.
