Shorewomen Fall in CC Semifinal
Gettysburg Defeats WC, 9-4

COLLEGEVILLE, PA -- The 20th-ranked Washington College Shorewomen lost to eighth-ranked Gettysburg, 9-4, this afternoon in a Centennial Conference semifinal game played at Ursinus College. The loss dropped the Shorewomen's record this season to 9-7 overall.

Gettysburg's Julika Blankenship and Becky Bucha each scored a goal within the first 65 seconds of play to give the Bullets an early 2-0 lead. Bucha scored again with 18:25 left in the first half and Casey Costello followed at 16:44 to push the lead to 4-0. Washington sophomore midfielder Minta Sayres (East Haddam, CT/Westminster School) got the Shorewomen on the board at 10:34 off an assist from sophomore attacker Janet Studdiford (Wyndmoor, PA/Springside School), but Costello scored off a Bucha pass at 10:13 and Bucha scored an unassisted marker at 4:51 to push the Bullet lead to 6-1.

The Shorewomen scored twice in the closing moments of the opening half. Junior midfielder Kristen Bozzella (Harwood, MD/Southern) scored with 1:08 to play and sophomore attacker Casey Sawma (Conway, MA/Stoneleigh-Burnham) scored off a pass from junior attacker Paige Heller (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial) to pull the Shorewomen to within three at the break.

Bucha opened the second half scoring at 26:09 remaining and added another goal at 14:14 to push the lead back to five at 8-3. Sawma scored with 1:55 to go and Bucha scored again with one second on the clock to provide the final margin.

Bucha finished with six goals and one assist for Gettysburg. Costello tallied two goals, while Megan Murphy had a pair of assists. Sawma led the Shorewomen with a pair of goals.

The Shorewomen return to action Wednesday with a 7:00 p.m. game at second-ranked College of New Jersey.
