13, 2002 CARLISLE, PA -- The 20th-ranked Washington College Shorewomen closed out their Centennial Conference regular season schedule with an 18-8 win at Dickinson College this afternoon. The Shorewomen, now 9-5 overall, finish 7-2 in conference play and will face Gettysburg in the conference semifinals at Ursinus one week from today. Dickinson led just once in the game, at 1-0. The Shorewomen built a 9-2 lead at the half an led 13-4 in the second before the Red Devils twice got back within seven goals. WC closed the game on a three-goal run to provide the final margin. Sophomore attacker Casey Sawma (Conway, MA/Stoneleigh-Burnham) led WC offensively with four goals and two assists. Sophomore attacker Janet Studdiford (Wyndmoor, PA/Springside School) added four goals and one assist and freshman attacker Lindsey Eichner (Raritan, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) added two goals and two assists. Junior midfielders Kristen Bozzella (Harwood, MD/Southern) and Betty Weller (Sudlersville, MD/Queen Anne's County) each totaled three points; Weller scored three goals, while Bozzella had a goal and two assists. Sophomore goalie Mandy Higdon (Catonsville, MD/Catonsville) made 17 saves in the win. Shaina Flynn led Dickinson with four goals. Hannah Johnson added a goal and two assists, while Rachel Mowell tallied three assists. The Shorewomen host Eastern Shore rival and 14th-ranked Salisbury Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
