23, 2009 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Visiting St. Mary's College of Maryland overcame a late rally by host Washington College to record a 3-2 overtime victory over the Shorewomen in a non-conference field hockey game tonight on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The Seahawks improved to 4-3 with the win, while the Shorewomen slipped to 2-4 with the loss. The Seahawks scored their first goal when Caitlin Grice fired in a loose ball with 20:49 remaining in the first half. Lauriann Parker blasted in the second St. Mary's goal on the run with 1:59 remaining in the opening half. St. Mary's held a 7-2 advantage in shots in the first half. Washington got on the board when sophomore attack Emily Trees (Kensington, MD/Connelly School of the Holy Child) scored following a pass to the center of the circle from senior attack Kelsey Kemp (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) with 11:54 left in the second half. Trees and Kemp reversed roles on the game-tying goal as Trees sent the ball to a trailing Kemp on the break for a goal with 5:22 to go in regulation. Amanda Bramble scored the game-winner for St. Mary's with 7:07 left in the first overtime period. Following a penalty corner, Allie Skiest sent a ball wide to the right of the goal where Bramble got her stick on it and fired it into the back of the cage. St. Mary's held a 16-8 advantage in shots and a 13-9 edge in penalty corners in the game. Emma Lauhoff made three saves in the win for the Seahawks, while senior goalkeeper Elena Nicholoff (Tunkhannock, PA/Lackawanna Trail) made nine stops for the Shorewomen. The Shorewomen return to action Friday with a 7:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at Franklin & Marshall.
