15, 2007 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Lauren Rutt scored the game-winning goal with 11:02 remaining in the second overtime period to give visiting Muhlenberg a 2-1 victory over host Washington College in the Centennial Conference field hockey opener for both schools this afternoon on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The Mules improved to 4-2 overall with the win, while the Shorewomen fell to 2-2 with the loss. Junior attack/midfielder Jaimie Barlow (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll) put the Shorewomen ahead 1-0 when she knocked in a rebounding shot with 23:01 left in the first half. Muhlenberg evened the score on a similar play when Jillian Duffy knocked in a loose ball after a rebound with 6:04 remaining in the period. Each team got off nine shots in the second half. The Shorewomen earned a penalty corner as time expired, but Muhlenberg was able to play the ball out. Muhlenberg held a 3-2 advantage in shots in the first overtime and had all six shots in the second overtime, three of them on the final sequence which saw Rutt knock in a loose ball. Sophomore goalkeeper Elena Nicholoff (Tunkhannock, PA/Lackawanna Trail) made 20 saves, including eight in overtime, in the loss for the Shorewomen, while Michelle Consiglio tallied nine saves for Muhlenberg. Muhlenberg held a 24-17 advantage in shots in the game and an 18-8 advantage in penalty corners. The Shorewomen return to action Tuesday with a 4:30 p.m. non-conference game at Villa Julie.
