Gaull Tallies Hat Trick in 4-2 Win
Shorewomen Trump Marywood

SCRANTON, PA -- Junior attack Candace Gaull (Laurel, DE/Laurel) recorded her first career hat trick to lead visiting Washington College past host Marywood University, 4-2, in a non-conference field hockey game this afternoon in Scranton, PA. The Shorewomen improved to 4-3 overall with the win, while the Pacers fell to 2-5 with the loss.

Gaull's first goal came just 82 seconds into the game when she scored off a pass from sophomore attacker Kristin Bircsak (East Windsor, NJ/Hightstown). Washington took a 2-0 lead 5:37 into the game as sophomore midfielder Kelsey Kemp (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) scored off an assist from senior attack Megan Rainey (Severna Park, MD/Archbishop Spalding). Gaull pushed the early advantage to 3-0 11:06 into the contest with a goal off an assists from sophomore midfielder Kelly Tancredi (Wallingford, PA/Strath Haven).

The score remained 3-0 until 30:27 remained in the second half when Tancredi found Gaull again to complete Gaull's three-goal day and give the Shorewomen a 4-0 lead. Marywood's Brittany Beaton broke up the shutout with 13:06 on the clock and Caity Hadzimichalis added the Pacers' second goal with 2:34 to play.

Marywood held a 13-10 advantage in shots in the game, but sophomore goalkeeper Elena Nicholoff (Tunkhannock, PA/Lackawanna Trail) made six saves for the Shorewomen, including five in the first half. Stephanie Ziemski made three stops for the Pacers. Washington held an 8-7 edge in penalty corners.

The Shorewomen return to action Wednesday with a 6:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at Swarthmore.
