#9 Blue Jays Blank Shorewomen, 4-0
Nicholoff Makes Career-High 21 Saves

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Visiting ninth-ranked Johns Hopkins scored three times in the second half en route to a 4-0 Centennial Conference field hockey victory over host Washington College tonight on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The Blue Jays improved to 9-1 overall and 5-0 in conference play with the win, while the Shorewomen fell to 4-7 and 0-4 with the loss.

Hopkins wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as Adair Landy scored on the Blue Jays' first shot of the game after receiving a pass from Andrea Vandersall 2:23 into the game. Washington's defense held fast for the rest of the opening period, however, as Hopkins was unable to convert on its remaining 21 shots of the half. Washington sophomore goalkeeper Elena Nicholoff (Tunkhannock, PA/Lackawanna Trail) made 14 saves in the first half, while junior defender Cora Jo Spare (North East, MD/North East) notched a pair of defensive saves in the period.

The Blue Jays scored their second goal when Landy knocked in a loose ball near the cage with 27:20 left in the second half. The lead moved to 3-0 when Vandersall tipped in a ball sent from Leah Dudley with 18:05 remaining on the clock. Leah Horton provided the Blue Jays' fourth goal when she blasted in a shot from near the top of the circle with 12:35 left.

For the game, Hopkins held a 34-9 advantage in shots and a 15-3 advantage in penalty corners. Sophia Tieu made six saves for the Blue Jays to pick up the shutout, while Nicholoff made a career-high 21 stops for the Shorewomen.

The Shorewomen return to action Wednesday with a 7:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at top-ranked and defending NCAA Division III National Champion Ursinus.
