5, 2007 TOWSON, MD -- Junior attack Candace Gaull (Laurel, DE/Laurel) netted two goals and junior attack/midfielder Jaimie Barlow (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll) had a goal and an assist as Washington College shutout host Goucher, 4-0, on Wednesday afternoon at at Gopher Stadium. The Shorewomen open 2-0 for the first time in 10 years, while the Gophers drop to 0-2. The Shorewomen, who scored all four goals in the first half, wasted no time getting on the board. Sophomore attack Kristin Bircsak (East Windsor, NJ/Hightstown) scored 34 seconds in off of a feed from senior attack Megan Rainey (Severna Park, MD/Archbishop Spalding). Washington made it 2-0 on a Gaull tally with 31:05 left in the opening half. Barlow made it 3-0 with 5:14 remaining in the first half on an unassisted goal. Gaull completed the scoring 85 seconds later, with Barlow picking up the assist. Washington outshot Goucher in the contest, 25-9 and had 18 penalty corners to Goucher's three. Sophomore goalkeeper Elena Nicholoff (Tunkhannock, PA/Lackawanna Trail) picked up the shutout for Washington, making seven stops. Aline Haddad made 16 saves for the Gophers. The two teams met for the first time since 1990. The Shorewomen return to action Tuesday with a 4:00 p.m. game at Delmarva rival Wesley in Dover, DE.
