Bullets Sting Shorewomen, 3-2, in OT
Spadanuta, Kemp Score for WC in Loss

GETTYSBURG, PA -- Savannah Ruth scored the game-winning goal 3:02 into overtime as host Gettysburg College defeated visiting Washington College, 3-2, in a Centennial Conference field hockey game this afternoon. The Bullets moved to 8-5 overall and 4-2 in conference play with the win, while the Shorewomen fell to 4-9 and 0-6 with the loss.

Ruth scored the game's first goal with 31:20 remaining in the first half when she blasted in a shot from the top of the circle off a penalty corner pass from Nikki Dyer. The Shorewomen tied the score at 1-1 with 11:55 left in the opening period as junior attack Amy Spadanuta (Hackettstown, NJ/Warren Hills) scored off an assist from sophomore midfielder Kelly Tancredi (Wallingford, PA/Strath Haven). The Bullets regained the lead quickly, however, as Ruth fed Emily Harwood for a goal just in front of the cage with 9:08 to go before halftime.

Washington sophomore midfielder Kelsey Kemp (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) scored the only goal of the second half when she fired in a penalty stroke with 28:14 remaining. Ruth's game-winner came on the Bulllets' first shot in overtime as she had a wide-open look on a three-on-one breakaway.

Gettysburg held a 22-5 advantage in shots in the game and an 11-6 edge in penalty corners. Katherine Corkhill made three saves for the Bullets, while sophomore goalkeeper Elena Nicholoff (Tunkhannock, PA/Lackawanna Trail) made 11 stops for the Shorewomen.

The Shorewomen return to action Wednesday with a 4:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against Haverford.
