Shorewomen Shoo Owls, 7-0
Gaull Has Hand in Four Goals

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Junior attack Candace Gaull (Laurel, DE/Laurel) scored one goal and assisted on three others and freshman midfielder/defender Sarah Garber (Mount Joy, PA/Donegal) scored two goals as host Washington College blanked Bryn Mawr, 7-0, in a Centennial Conference field hockey game tonight on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The Shorewomen improved to 6-10 overall and 2-7 in conference play with the win, while the Owls fell to 2-11 and 0-9 with the loss.

Gaull blasted in the first goal of the game 3:46 into the contest off an assist from freshman Sara Rutkowski (Wernersville, PA/Conrad Weiser). Garber made it 2-0 when she tipped on a blast from Gaull following a penalty corner with 23:19 left in the first half. The Shorewomen took the 2-0 lead into halftime.

The Shorewomen's third goal came with 25:53 left in the second half when sophomore attack Kristin Bircsak (East Windsor, NJ/Hightstown) redirected in a shot from Gaull. Gaull assisted on Washington's fourth goal as well when senior attack Megan Rainey (Severna Park, MD/Archbishop Spalding) tipped in a shot from Gaull with 23:49 to play. Garber scored her second goal off an assist from Rainey with 19:30 remaining to make it 5-0. The margin increased to 6-0 when junior attack Amy Spadanuta (Hackettstown, NJ/Warren Hills) scored off Rainey's second assist of the contest. Sophomore midfielder Kelly Tancredi (Wallingford, PA/Strath Haven) provided the Shorewomen's seventh goal with an unassisted tally with 8:38 to go.

Washington held a 26-0 advantage in shots in the game and a 14-3 edge in penalty corners. Sophomore goalkeeper Elena Nicholoff (Tunkhannock, PA/Lackawanna Trail) went the distance in the shutout for Washington. Caitlin Evans made 11 saves for Bryn Mawr. Rachel Brody made a defensive save for the Owls.

The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with their season finale - a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at Dickinson.
