Pioneers Blank Shorewomen, 2-0
Nicholoff Makes Nine Saves for Washington

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Visiting William Paterson scored both goals in the second half en route to a 2-0 field hockey win over host Washington College this afternoon on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium in the final event of Washington's Jammin Jesse's Opening Weekend. The Pioneers improved to 2-0 with the win, while the Shorewomen fell to 0-2 with the loss.

The two teams combined for just eight shots in the first period (five for William Paterson, three for Washington). The Pioneers scored their first goal with 22:24 remaining in the second half as Chelsea Winkelspecht scored off an assist from Meghan Hall. Winkelspecht and Hall connected for William Paterson's other goal as well; this time it was Hall scoring the goal with 16:54 left in the game.

William Paterson goalie Grace Browne made four saves in the shutout, while freshman goalkeeper Elena Nicholoff (Tunkhannock, PA/Lackawanna Trail) made nine saves for the Shorewomen. Senior defender Katie Madron (Rising Sun, MD/Rising Sun) was credited with a defensive save for Washington.

The Pioneers held a 14-9 advantage in shots, while Washington maintained a 12-8 edge in penalty corners.

The Shorewomen return to action Thursday with a 7:00 p.m. game at Rowan.
