21, 2006 ST. MARY'S CITY, MD -- Host St. Mary's College of Maryland jumped out to a 3-0 halftime lead en route to a 4-0 non-conference field hockey victory over visiting Washington College this afternoon in St. Mary's City, MD. The Seahawks improved to 5-2 with the win, while the Shorewomen slipped to 0-5 with the loss. Kaitlin Anderson opened the scoring for St. Mary's with 19:18 left in the first half. Marianne Wood made it 2-0 with 17:05 to play in the period. Alison Fermi then scored off an Emily Norris assist with 9:17 to go before halftime. Femi scored again in the second half, this time off an assist from Wood with 26:10 to play in the game. Emily Richards played the first half in goal for St. Mary's, making three saves, while Jennie Fiskum played the second half and made four saves. Freshman goalkeeper Elena Nicholoff (Tunkhannock, PA/Lackawanna Trail) made three saves in the loss for the Shorewomen. Senior defender Lindsey Riley (Rising Sun, MD/Rising Sun) and freshman midfielder Kelly Tancredi (Wallingford, PA/Strath Have) each made a defensive save for Washington. Tancredi's was the first of her collegiate career. St. Mary's held a 14-11 advantage in shots in the game. Washington maintained a 7-6 edge in penalty corners. The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with their Centennial Conference opener, a 12:00 p.m. game at fifth-ranked Ursinus.
