#5 Sea Gulls Handle Shorewomen
Moser Scores for WC in Loss

SALISBURY, MD -- Fifth-ranked host Salisbury University, the three-time defending NCAA Division III Champion, scored five second-half goals in an 8-1 win over visiting Washington College in a non-conference field hockey game today in Salisbury, MD.

The Sea Gulls (14-3) got on the board early as Megan Powell scored off an assist from Lynette Sgrignoli following a penalty corner with 32:38 left in the first half. Salisbury made it 2-0 with 20:56 left in the period when Abbie Rowe scored off a pass from Danielle Twilley.

Washington got on the board with 17:31 left in the half as senior attack Shane Moser (Topton, PA/Brandywine Heights) scored off a pass from junior attack Rachel Miller (Greene, NY/Greene Central) on the Shorewomen's first shot of the game. The Sea Gulls pushed the lead to 3-1 before the break when Sgrignoli scored off a Powell assist with 2:03 left in the first.

Salisbury opened the second half with a goal by Powell off an assist from Lauren Correll with 30:47 left. Correll pushed the lead to 5-1 with a goal off an assist from Beverly Beladino with 27:13 remaining in the game. Correll scored again, this time off a feed from Tracey Lloyd with 23:29 left, to open up a 6-1 lead. Powell flipped in a goal with 21:46 left off an assist from Ashley Twigg. Sgrignoli tacked on the Sea Gulls' eighth goal of the game with 8:18 on the clock.

Salisbury held a 32-2 advantage in shots and a 22-2 advantage in penalty corners in the game.

Freshman goalkeeper Elena Nicholoff (Tunkhannock, PA/Lackawanna Trail) made 14 saves for Washington. Senior defender Lindsey Riley (Rising Sun, MD/Rising Sun) had a defensive save for the Shorewomen.

The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against Muhlenberg.
