2006 HAVERFORD, PA -- Host Haverford College jumped out to a 2-0 halftime lead and held on to post a 3-2 win over visiting Washington College in a Centennial Conference field hockey game this afternoon in Haverford, PA. The Fords improved to 4-6 overall and 1-4 in conference play with the win, while the Shorewomen slipped to 0-9 and 0-4. Haverford got onto the board 5:50 in the contest on a Colleen Farrell goal. The Fords made it 2-0 at the 19:11 mark on a penalty stroke goal by Jen Chu. Junior attack Rachel Miller (Greene, NY/Greene) trimmed Haverford's lead in half when she scored 4:10 into the second half. The Fords regained their two goal lead when Farrell fed a pass to Zoe Lloyd at 43:55. Miller netted her second goal of the contest with 1:03 left, finishing off a penalty corner to close out the scoring. Haverford goalie Sarah Graves made four saves, while freshman goalkeeper Elena Nicholoff (Tunkhannock, PA/Lackawanna Trail) made 11 stops for the Shorewomen. The Fords held a 21-9 advantage in shots and a 14-6 advantage in penalty corners in the game. The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 12:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against Swarthmore.
