Pioneers Shutout Shorewomen, 1-0

WAYNE, NJ -- The Washington College field hockey team dropped a 1-0 decision to the Pioneers of William Paterson this afternoon in Wayne, NJ. With the loss, WC falls to 0-2 on the season while William Paterson improves to 2-0.

Washington started out aggressively, compiling three penalty corners in the first five minutes of the contest. The Pioneers gained the momentum early in the second half and took a 1-0 lead with 20:54 remaining. Freshman Tina Londino capitalized on a pass off a penalty corner from
sophomore Marissa Horner.

The Shorewomen controlled the final five minutes of the contest, recording five penalty corners, but were not able to capitalize on any of the opportunities.

Jessie Mull made four saves in the shutout for the Pioneers. Sophomore goalkeeper Erin O’Brien (Havre de Grace, MD/John Carroll) recorded three saves in the losing effort for Washington. Junior defender Lindsey Riley (Rising Sun, MD/Rising Sun) made one defensive save for the Shorewomen.

Washington held an 8-7 advantage in shots in the game and an 8-6 edge in penalty corners.

The Shorewomen will play their home opener against St. Mary’s (MD) on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
