September 10, 2005 NORFOLK, VA -- Host Virginia Wesleyan posted a 3-0 victory over visiting Washington College in field hockey action this afternoon in Norfolk, VA. The Marlins improved to 2-1 on the season with the win, while the Shorewomen slipped to 0-4 with the loss. Chrissy Clancy scored the Marlins' first two goals of the game, the first off an assist from Erica Boyce with 3:29 left in the first half. Clancy pushed the lead to 2-0 with an unassisted goal with 16:41 remaining in the second half. Laura Chapman scored Virginia Wesleyan's third goal on a penalty stroke with 15:15 remaining in the game. Sophomore attack Rachel Miller (Greene, NY/Greene Central) had a team-high three shots for Washington. Virginia Wesleyan held a 10-6 advantage in shots in the game, but Washington maintained an 11-8 edge in penalty corners. The Shorewomen return to action Tuesday with their Centennial Conference opener, a 4:30 p.m. game at Bryn Mawr.
