24, 2005 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Sixth-ranked Ursinus College topped host Washington College, 6-1, in a Centennial Conference field hockey game this afternoon in Chestertown. The Bears improved to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play with the win, while the Shorewomen fell to 2-6 and 1-1 with the loss. Ursinus held a 20-0 advantage in shots and an 11-0 advantage in penalty corners in the first half and took a 2-0 lead into halftime. Washington held a 12-8 advantage in shots and a 13-8 advantage in penalty corners in the second half, but the Bears outscored the Shorewomen, 4-1, in the final period to come away with the win. Jessica Rogers scored two goals for Ursinus, while Jenni Moore and Molly Stevens each had one goal and one assist. Lindsay Cappa and Ashley Ettinger each scored while goal for the the Bears. Kait Sutherland and Karen Wendler each added one assist. Sophomore attack Rachel Miller (Greene, NY/Greene Central) scored Washington's goal off an assist from freshman attack Amy Spadanuta (Hackettstown, NJ/Warren Hills). Jessica Lamina made the start in goal for Ursinus and played the first half without facing a shot. Erin Bender played the second half, making six saves and allowing one goal. Nikki Thren made a pair of defensive saves for the Bears. Meredith Stabley also made a defensive save. Sophomore goalkeeper Erin O'Brien (Havre de Grace, MD/John Carroll) started in cage for Washington and made 14 saves while allowing five goals in 64:29. Freshman Elizabeth Hoff (Silver Spring, MD/J.H. Blake) played the final 5:31 and allowed one goal. Senior defender Erin Peyton (Towson, MD/Maryvale) made a defensive save for the Shorewomen. The Shorewomen are back in action Tuesday with a 4:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against McDaniel.
