Moser's Goal Lifts WC Past Eagles
First Win Over Mary Washington Since 1998

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Junior attack Shane Moser (Topton, PA/Brandywine Heights) scored the game-winning goal with just 2:08 left to play in the second half to give host Washington College a 2-1 win and its first victory over visiting Mary Washington since 1998 in field hockey action this afternoon in Chestertown, MD.

The Shorewomen (2-4) struck first in the game as freshman attack Amy Spadanuta (Hackettstown, NJ/Warren Hills) knocked in a shot off Mary Washington goalkeeper Katherine Brown and an Eagle defender to score her first collegiate goal with 11:58 left in the first half. The Eagles (2-4) tied the score when Brynn Maguire pushed the ball ahead in transition to Jenna Elliott, who fired in a goal with 3:24 left in the period.

The second half remained scoreless until Moser's decisive goal. Washington junior defender Katie Madron (Rising Sun, MD/Rising Sun) fired a shot from the top of the circle that Brown saved, but Moser knocked in the rebound for the goal. The Shorewomen held a 13-2 advantage in shots in the second half.

Sophomore goalkeeper Erin O'Brien (Havre de Grace, MD/John Carroll) made five saves in the win for the Shorewomen, while Brown made 14 saves for the Eagles.

Washington held a 20-10 advantage in shots in the game and an 11-9 edge in penalty corners.

The Shorewomen had lost six straight games to the Eagles. Their last win in the series came on September 4, 1998 in the form of a 4-1 victory. Washington is now 4-9 all-time against Mary Washington.

The Shorewomen return to action Tuesday with a 4:00 p.m. home game against eighth-ranked Rowan.
