September 8, 2005 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Marianne Wood scored the only goal of the game with 5:50 remaining in the first sudden victory overtime period to give visiting St. Mary's (MD) a 1-0 win over host Washington College in field hockey action this afternoon in Chestertown, MD. Wood received a cross from the right of the cage off the stick of Kaitlin Anderson to score the game-winner and give the Seahawks (1-2) their first win of the season. Emily Richards made nine saves in the win for St. Mary's, while sophomore goalkeeper Erin O’Brien (Havre de Grace, MD/John Carroll) made four stops for the Shorewomen (0-3). Junior defender Lindsey Riley (Rising Sun, MD/Rising Sun) made two defensive saves for Washington, giving her four in three games this season. Washington held a slim 12-11 advantage in shots in the game and an 8-7 edge in penalty corners. The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 2:00 p.m. game at Virginia Wesleyan.
