20, 2005 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Eighth-ranked Rowan scored three goals in the first 2:17 of the game en route to a 6-2 win over host Washington College in non-conference field hockey action this afternoon in Chestertown, MD. The Profs improved to 6-1 with the win, while the Shorewomen fell to 2-5 with the loss. Liz Unger gave Rowan an early lead when she scored off a penalty corner 1:09 into the game. Colleen McGowan assisted on Unger's goal. Corrine Monohan made it 2-0 when she scored of a feed from Unger 51 seconds later. Seventeen seconds later, Danielle Miranda made it 3-0 in favor of the Profs with a goal with 32:43 remaining in the first half. The 3-0 margin did not last long, however, as Washington junior attack Shane Moser (Topton, PA/Brandywine Heights) redirected in a long hit from junior midfielder Kristin Ward (Magnolia, DE/Caesar Rodney) with 30:09 left in the period. Rowan answered when Miranda scored her second goal of the day with 23:43 remaining in the period. Freshman attack Amy Spadanuta (Hackettstown, NJ/Warren Hills) scored from near the top of the circle for the Shorewomen with 19:44 remaining in the half to cut the lead to 4-2. A combined six goals were scored in the game in the first 15:16 of playing time. The Profs struck for two more goals in the second half. Susan Massara scored with 18:59 remaining in the game and Rachel Cheafsky added a goal with 2:09 left in the contest. Sophomore goalkeeper Erin O'Brien (Havre de Grace, MD/John Carroll) made eight saves in the loss for the Shorewomen, while Stephanie Doherty made one save for Rowan. The Profs held an 18-3 advantage in shots, including a 9-0 advantage in the second half. Rowan also held a 12-10 edge in penalty corners. The Shorewomen return to Centennial Conference play Saturday as they play host to sixth-ranked Ursinus at 1:00 p.m.
