Mules Halt Shorewomen, 3-1
Spadanuta Scores for Washington

ALLENTOWN, PA -- Host Muhlenberg College took a 2-0 lead early in the second half en route to a 3-1 Centennial Conference field hockey win over visiting Washington College in what would prove to be the season finale for both teams this afternoon in Allentown, PA. The loss by the Shorewomen (6-11, 5-5 Centennial), coupled with Franklin & Marshall's 4-1 win over Swarthmore today, eliminated Washington from the Centennial Conference playoff race and clinched the final playoff spot for Franklin & Marshall.

LisaAnna Polt scored the first goal of the game for Muhlenberg (9-9, 4-6) with 8:05 left in the first half on a shot close to the cage. Kelly Shetron made it 2-0 off an assist from Nikki Rhoads with 30:06 left in the second half. Freshman attack Amy Spadanuta (Hackettstown, NJ/Warren Hills) got Washington back within one goal when she scored off an assist from junior midfielder Ally Simons (Camp Hill, PA/Cumberland Valley) with 11:55 to play, but the Mules tacked on an insurance goal when Steph Light scored off an assist from Katie Thomas during a penalty corner with 5:38 on the clock.

Lauren Schram made four saves for Muhlenberg, while freshman goalkeeper Elizabeth Hoff (Silver Spring, MD/James H. Blake) made five stops for the Shorewomen.

Muhlenberg held a 14-7 advantage in shots and an 8-7 edge in penalty corners in the game.
