October 4, 2005 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Junior attack/midfielder Molly Gavin (Severna Park, MD/Archbishop Spalding) scored the only goal of the game early in the second half to give host Washington College a 1-0 Centennial Conference field hockey victory over visiting Haverford this afternoon in Chestertown. After a scoreless first half, Gavin fired in a loose ball over Haverford goalkeeper Amie Roe with 28:05 remaining in the second half. The Shorewomen (3-8, 2-3 Centennial) held a 12-2 advantage in shots in the game, including a 7-0 advantage in the second half. The Fords (3-7, 1-3) held a 7-4 edge in penalty corners, but Washington recorded three of the four penalty corners in the second half. Washington sophomore goalkeeper Erin O'Brien (Havre de Grace, MD/John Carroll) made one save in the shutout. Roe made six saves for Haverford, while Emily Dillon made a pair of defensive saves for the Fords. The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at Swarthmore.
