October 1, 2005 LANCASTER, PA -- Brittany Croll scored the only goal of the game on a penalty stroke in overtime as twelfth-ranked host Franklin & Marshall posted a 1-0 victory over Washington College in a Centennial Conference field hockey game this afternoon in Lancaster, PA. The Diplomats improved to 8-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play with the win, while the Shorewomen slipped to 2-8 and 1-3. Washington held an 8-7 advantage in shots in the first half, but the Diplomats got off all five shots in a scoreless second half. Each team had taken two shots in overtime before Croll scored the game-winner on a penalty stroke with 6:36 remaining in the first overtime. Michelle Altman made nine saves in goal for F&M, while sophomore goalkeeper Erin O'Brien (Havre de Grace, MD/John Carroll) recorded eight saves for the Shorewomen. Junior defender Katie Madron (Rising Sun, MD/Rising Sun) notched a defensive save for Washington. The Diplomats held a 22-5 advantage in penalty corners in the game. The Shorewomen return to action Tuesday with a 4:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against Haverford.
