October 22, 2005 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Sophomore attack Rachel Miller (Greene, NY/Greene Central) and freshman attack Amy Spadanuta (Hackettstown, NJ/Warren Hills) each scored two goals to lead host Washington College past visiting Dickinson, 4-3, in a Centennial Conference field hockey games played in a steady rain this afternoon in Chestertown. Miller gave the Shorewomen (5-10, 4-4 Centennial) control of the game early, scoring two goals in the first 3:05 of the game. She fired in her first goal with 33:00 left in the first period off an assist from junior attack Shane Moser (Topton, PA/Brandywine Heights). Miller then received the ball near midfield and beat the Dickinson defense to score an unassisted goal 1:05 later. Meghan Hihn put the Red Devils (2-13, 1-7) on the board with 22:50 to play in the period with a goal off an assist from Megan Kelly. Washington pushed the lead to 3-1 with 15:09 left in the first half when Spadanuta knocked in an unassisted goal. Dickinson trimmed the lead to 3-2 when Katie Austin blasted in a shot from just inside the circle off a penalty corner taken by Morgan Kelly with 23:51 left in the second half. Spadanuta extended the lead back to two goals when she scored off an assist from junior midfielder Ally Simons (Camp Hill, PA/Cumberland Valley) with 9:04 remaining. The Red Devils pulled back to within one on another hard shot by Austin from just inside the circle, this time off a penalty corner taken by Lauren Moag with 3:04 to go, but Washington held on for the win. Sophomore goalkeeper Erin O'Brien (Havre de Grace, MD/John Carroll) made four saves for the Shorewomen in the win, while Katlin Harker made seven stops in the loss for the Red Devils. Washington enjoyed a 20-7 advantage in shots in the game. Each team recorded five penalty corners. The Shorewomen return to action Thursday with a 4:30 p.m. Centennial Conference game at Swarthmore.
