WC Wins Centennial Opener
Shorewomen Down Bryn Mawr, 4-0

BRYN MAWR, PA -- Visiting Washington College scored two goals in each half en route to a 4-0 win over host Bryn Mawr College in the Centennial Conference field hockey opener for both teams this afternoon in Bryn Mawr, PA. The Shorewomen improved to 1-4 overall with the win, while the Owls slipped to 1-2.

Sophomore attack Amanda Garbart (Baltimore, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) scored her first collegiate goal off an assist from sophomore attack Rachel Miller (Greene, NY/Greene Central) with 30:35 left in the first half to give the Shorewomen a 1-0 lead. Junior attack/midfielder Molly Gavin (Severna Park, MD/Archbishop Spalding) then scored her first collegiate goal off an assist from junior defender Katie Madron (Rising Sun, MD/Rising Sun) with 8:51 remaining in the period to up the lead to 2-0 at halftime.

Junior attack Shane Moser (Topton, PA/Brandywine Heights) scored on a rebound to increase the lead to 3-0 with 16:18 left on the clock in the second half. Junior midfielder Ally Simons (Camp Hill, PA/Cumberland Valley) rounded out the scoring with an unassisted goal from near the top of the circle with 15:09 remaining.

Sophomore goalkeeper Erin O'Brien (Havre de Grace, MD/John Carroll) made one save in the shutout for the Shorewomen. Rachel Brady made 18 saves and allowed all four goals in the first 55:53 of the game for Bryn Mawr. Nicole Huynh played the final 14:07 and made seven saves for the Owls.

Washington held a 36-1 advantage in shots and a 25-1 advantage in penalty corners in the game.

The Shorewomen return to action Friday with a 4:30 p.m. home game against Mary Washington.
