September 19, 2004 FREDERICKSBURG, VA -- Mary Washington's Laura Fazzaro scored her second goal of the game 37 seconds into overtime to give the host Eagles a 4-3 victory over visiting Washington College in field hockey action this afternoon in Fredericksburg, VA. Mary Washington improved to 4-1 on the season with the win, while the Shorewomen, who got two goals from senior attack/midfielder Breahn McAteer (Haddon Heights, NJ/Haddon Heights), slipped to 2-3. Brynn Maguire opened the scoring for the Eagles with a goal off a direct corner with 29:49 remaining in the first half. Lauren Allen and Caitlin O'Leary picked up assists on the goal. McAteer then tied the score with a goal off an assist from freshman attack/midfielder Rachel Miller (Greene, NY/Greene Central) with 25:59 left in the half. Fazzaro gave Mary Washington a 2-1 lead at the break with a goal with 10:37 to play in the period. Miller knotted the score at 2-2 with 29:36 left in the second period. Neither team would score again until 8:29 remained in regulation when Maguire scored on a breakaway. McAteer tied the score at 3-3 just 1:21 later by knocking in a loose ball in front of the goal. Fazzaro's overtime game-winner came on the fourth of a flurry of four shots by the Eagles to open the extra frame. Freshman goalkeeper Erin O'Brien (Havre de Grace, MD/John Carroll) made 10 saves for the Shorewomen in the loss, while Miller picked up her first collegiate defensive save. Robyn Lankford recorded three saves for Mary Washington. The Shorewomen will travel to fifth-ranked Rowan Tuesday for a 7:00 p.m. game.
