No. 1 Salisbury Stops Shorewomen, 3-1
Scimeca Ties WAC's Career Point Mark

SALISBURY, MD -- Top-ranked Salisbury University, the defending NCAA Division III Champions, improved to 14-0 this season with a 3-1 win over visiting Washington College in a non-conference field hockey game this afternoon. The Sea Gulls got two goals from Melissa Webster in the win, while senior attack Laura Scimeca (Cream Ridge, NJ/Allentown) tied the Shorewomen's career point record in the loss.

Washington (6-6) held Salisbury off the scoreboard in the first half despite the Sea Gulls' 13-1 advantage in shots and 14-1 advantage in penalty corners in the period. Salisbury finally solved Washington's defense with 29:25 to play in the second half when Webster scored off an assist from Erin Budd. Megan Powell made the score 2-0 when she lifted a rebound shot high into the goal with 16:00 to play. Webster scored her second goal on a penalty stroke with 9:47 left.

Freshman attack/midfielder Rachel Miller (Greene, NY/Greene Central) scored the Shorewomen's goal with 2:45 remaining when she blasted in a shot off an assist from Scimeca. The assist gave Scimeca 119 points in her career, tying the school record established by Christyl Arrabal from 1996-99.

Washington freshman goalkeeper Erin O'Brien (Havre de Grace, MD/John Carroll) made 16 saves for the Shorewomen, while her teammates added seven defensive saves. Sophomore defender Lindsey Riley (Rising Sun, MD/Rising Sun) led the way with three defensive saves to boost her team-leading total this season to eight. Sophomore defender Katie Madron (Rising Sun, MD/Rising Sun) recorded two defensive saves, while senior defender Tarra Boulden (Newark, DE/Tower Hill) and Scimeca had one each.

The Sea Gulls held a 30-6 advantage in shots and a 29-3 advantage in penalty corners in the game.

The Shorewomen take on Gettysburg College on the road on Saturday in a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game.
