September 21, 2004 GLASSBORO, NJ -- For the second consecutive year and for the first time on the road, the Washington College field hockey team has upset a nationally-ranked Rowan University squad. Senior attack Laura Scimeca (Cream Ridge, NJ/Allentown) scored one goal and assisted on another as the Shorewomen improved to 3-3 on the season with a 2-1 victory over the eighth-ranked Profs. After a scoreless first half, sophomore attack/midfielder Ally Simons (Camp Hill, PA/Cumberland Valley) tipped in a goal off an assist from Scimeca following a penalty corner with 34:05 to play in the game. Scimeca gave the Shorewomen a two-goal lead with her seventh goal of the season, scoring off an assist from senior attack/midfielder Breahn McAteer (Haddon Heights, NJ/Haddon Heights) with 25:50 on the clock. Rowan (2-3) got on the board with 1:30 left in the game as Colleen McGowan scored an unassisted goal. Freshman goalkeeper Erin O'Brien (Havre de Grace, MD/John Carroll) made 12 saves for the Shorewomen, helping offset a 15-4 advantage in shots for Rowan. Last season, Washington defeated Rowan, 2-1, in a game that went to strokes. The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at third-ranked Ursinus.
