October 30, 2004 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Sophomore defender Katie Madron (Rising Sun, MD/Rising Sun) scored the game's only goal to give host Washington College a 1-0 win over visiting Muhlenberg in a Centennial Conference field hockey game this afternoon in Chestertown. The victory gives the Shorewomen, who improved to 9-8 overall and finished conference play with a 6-4 mark, a berth in next week's Centennial Conference Playoffs. In a defensive battle that featured just six shots from each team, Madron blasted in a loose ball from just inside of the circle with 16:50 remaining in the game to account for all of the scoring. Muhlenberg, which finishes the season 9-8 and 4-6, had a chance to tie the game in the waning seconds, but Washington sophomore defender Lindsey Riley (Rising Sun, MD/Rising Sun) came up with a big play to secure the win. With under five seconds remaining, Riley deflected a shot and prevented a Muhlenberg penalty corner that would have extended the game. Freshman goalkeeper Erin O'Brien (Havre de Grace, MD/John Carroll) made two saves in the shutout for the Shorewomen. Lauren Schram made four stops in goal for the Mules. The Shorewomen will be the fifth seed in the Centennial Conference playoffs and will play at 17th-ranked Gettysburg on Wednesday in the tournament's lone first round game. Gettysburg won the regular-season match-up between the two teams, 1-0. Box Score Muhlenberg 0-0---0 Scoring (Assist) Washington Saves - Erin O'Brien 2 (0 GA/70:00) Shots - WAC 6, MC 6
