October 20, 2004 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Senior attack Laura Scimeca (Cream Ridge, NJ/Allentown) scored two goals and assisted on another and took over sole possession of first place on Washington College's career point-scoring list as the Shorewomen defeated visiting Johns Hopkins, 3-1, this afternoon in Chestertown. The Shorewomen improved to 7-7 overall and 5-3 in conference play, while the Blue Jays, who won the 2003 Centennial Conference Championship, dropped to 4-11 and 1-6 and were eliminated from the conference playoff chase. Hopkins took an early 1-0 lead when Leah Dudley lifted a shot into the goal with 30:45 left in the first half after Anna Rehwinkel put the ball in play on a penalty corner. Scimeca knotted the score at 1-1 when she fired a goal into the opposite corner of the cage with 12:15 left in the period. Sophomore forward/midfielder Ally Simons (Camp Hill, PA/Cumberland Valley) assisted on the goal. The Shorewomen took the lead for good with 26:05 remaining in the second half when Scimeca pushed the ball ahead to freshman attack/midfielder Rachel Miller (Greene, NY/Greene), who blasted it into the goal. Washington tacked on an insurance goal with 7:15 on the clock when Scimeca scored off an assist from senior attack/midfielder Breahn McAteer (Haddon Heights, NJ/Haddon Heights). Scimeca's five points on the day give her 124 for her career, a Washington College school record. Scimeca entered the game tied with Christyl Arrabal, who scored 119 points for the Shorewomen from 1996-99. Washington freshman goalkeeper Erin O'Brien (Havre de Grace, MD/John Carroll) made two saves in the win and was aided by another strong performance by the Washington defense, which recorded three defensive saves in the game. Sophomore defender Lindsey Riley (Rising Sun, MD/Rising Sun) recorded her team-leading ninth defensive save of the season. Sophomore defender Katie Madron (Rising Sun, MD/Rising Sun) and junior defender Erin Peyton (Towson, MD/Maryvale Prep) each tallied one defensive save as well. Dayna Eng and Meredith Shifman each played one half in goal for the Blue Jays. Eng played the first half and made three saves, while Shifman played the second and made one. Jen Ralston had a defensive save for Hopkins. The Shorewomen are back in action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at Dickinson.
