Shorewomen Blank Owls, 6-0
Sodano, Scimeca Score Two Goals Each

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Senior attacks Laura Scimeca (Cream Ridge, NJ/Allentown) and Traci Sodano (Clinton, NJ/North Hunterdon) scored two goals each as host Washington College defeated visiting Bryn Mawr, 6-0, in Centennial Conference field hockey action this afternoon in Chestertown. The Shorewomen improved to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in conference play with the win, while the Owls slipped to 2-2 overall and 0-2 in Centennial play.

Scimeca opened the scoring with an unassisted goal just 2:01 into the game. Sophomore attack Shane Moser (Topton, PA/Brandywine Heights) followed with a goal with 23:31 remaining in the period to push the lead to 2-0. Sophomore defender Katie Madron (Rising Sun, MD/Rising Sun) picked up her first collegiate assist on Moser's goal. Junior defender/midfielder Meggie Kratz (Owings, MD/Northern) scored an unassisted goal with 18:50 to play in the period to make it 3-0.

Scimeca, Washington's all-time leader in career goals, became the first Shorewoman to score 50 career goals when she knocked in her second of the game with 10:08 left in the period. Sodano then scored her first goal of the game with 3:15 on the clock to give Washington a 5-0 lead at the break. Sodano's second goal of the game was the only goal of the second half and came off an assist from sophomore attack/midfielder Ally Simons (Camp Hill, PA/Cumberland Valley) with 27:33 left in the game.

Freshmen goalkeepers Erin O'Brien (Havre de Grace, MD/John Carroll), who made one save in 51:19, and Amanda Moskal (Southampton, NJ/Lenape), who played the final 18:41, combined for the shutout win. Nicole Huynh made 10 saves in goal for the Owls, while Liz Plunkett picked up a defensive save.

Washington outshot Bryn Mawr, 25-2, and held a 16-7 advantage in penalty corners.

The Shorewomen return to action Friday with a 4:00 p.m. game at Mary Washington.
