1, 2003 ALLENTOWN, PA --Junior attack Laura Scimeca (Cream Ridge, NJ/Allentown) tied the school record for goals in a season and assisted on the game-winning goal as the Washington College field hockey team defeated host Muhlenberg, 3-2, in double overtime this afternoon. Freshman midfielder Ally Simons (Camp Hill, PA/Cumberland Valley) scored the game winner for the Shorewomen, who finish the regular season at 10-7 overall and 6-4 in Centennial Conference play. The Mules (11-7, 3-6) jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a pair of goals by Sara Fosdick with 30:33 and 20:58 remaining in the first half, respectively. Both Muhlenberg goals were assisted by Danielle Kline. Washington began its comeback when Scimeca scored off an assist from senior attack Taneil Sisco (Kent County, MD/Kent County) with 13:40 left in the first half. Scimeca opened the scoring in the second-half with an unassisted goal with 28:25 on the clock to tie things up at 2-2. That goal gave Scimeca 18 goals on the season, tying the single-season record she set just last year. Neither team would score again until Simons knocked in the game-winner off a Scimeca assist with 2:37 to play in the second overtime. Senior goalkeeper Zina Hense (Lewes, DE/Cape Henlopen) made ten saves in the win for Washington. Muhlenberg held a 25-17 advantage in shots in the game, but the Shorewomen outshot the Mules 10-7 in the second half and the two overtimes. The Shorewomen will now wait to see if they are selected for a berth in the ECAC Middle Atlantic Playoffs. Selections will be made Monday, November 10th.
