6, 2003 UPPER MONTCLAIR, NJ -- The Washington College field hockey team slipped to 1-2 on the season with a 5-1 loss this afternoon at Montclair State. The Red Hawks (2-0) took a 3-0 lead by halftime and went up 5-0 before the Shorewomen got on the board late in the second half. Megan Ulicny, Jen Soss, and Sarah Levine each scored a goal in the first half to give Montclair its 3-0 cushion at the break. Lea Smith then scored twice in the second, 33:45 and 13:43 remaining, respectively, to push the lead to 5-0. WC junior attack Laura Scimeca (Cream Ridge, NJ/Allentown) broke up the shutout with her third goal of the season, scoring with 9:55 left in the game. Freshman attack/midfielder Erin Woolever (Chestertown, MD/Kent County) picked up her first collegiate assist on Scimeca's goal. Montclair State scored two goals off of penalty corners and tallied seven assists in the game. MSU goalie Trisha Winkle made four saves, while WC senior Zina Hense (Lewes, DE/Cape Henlopen) made eight. The Red Hawks held an 18-7 advantage in shots and an 11-4 advantage in penalty corners. The Shorewomen return to action next Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. home game against St. Mary's (MD). Box Score
