1, 2003 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College field hockey team fell to 10th-ranked McDaniel, 2-1, in a Centennial Conference game this afternoon in Chestertown. The Shorewomen drop to 4-4 overall and 1-2 in conference play with the loss, while the Green Terror improves to 8-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play. Both McDaniel goals were scored by Kim Camponelli. Her first goal came with 2:59 left in the first half to give the Green Terror a 1-0 lead at the break. She pushed the lead to 2-0 when she rocketed in her second goal from just inside the circle with 30:31 left in the second. The Shorewomen got on the scoreboard with 1:36 left in the game when sophomore defender Meggie Kratz (Owings, MD/Northern) sent a pass across the circle to junior attack Laura Scimeca (Cream Ridge, NJ/Allentown), who knocked in her 11th goal of the season. Scimeca has now scored at least one goal in each of the Shorewomen's past seven games. Washington freshman midfielder Ally Simons (Camp Hill, PA/Cumberland Valley) got a shot off with two seconds remaining in the game, but McDaniel goalie Becky Arnold made the save to preserve the win for the Green Terror. Arnold finished with five saves in the game, while WC senior goalie Zina Hense (Lewes, DE/Cape Henlopen) tallied eight. Washington senior defender Missy Tine (Chestertown, MD/Kent County) notched her fourth defensive save of the season in the contest. McDaniel held a 20-16 advantage in shots. Each team had 11 penalty corners. The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at Franklin & Marshall.
