18, 2003 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Freshman midfielder Ally Simons (Camp Hill, PA/Cumberland Valley) scored one goal and assisted on another as the Washington College field hockey team topped visiting Gettysburg, 2-1, in a Centennial Conference game this afternoon. Washington (7-6 overall, 4-3 Centennial) handed Gettysburg (8-4, 5-1) its first conference loss of the season. Simons put the Shorewomen ahead with a goal with 28:38 remaining in the first half. WC grabbed a 2-0 lead when freshman defender Chelsea True (Maytown, PA/Donegal) scored her first collegiate goal when she redirected in a ball from Simons with 15:36 left in the first. The Bullets got on the board with 25:27 left in the second half when Carrie Brown scored off a Lisa Giljam assist, but the Shorewomen held on for the win. Washington held a 24-8 advantage in shots in the game. Each team had 10 penalty corners. The Shorewomen return to action Tuesday with a 7:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at Johns Hopkins.
