Shorewomen Blank Marlins, 3-0
Scimeca Has Hand in All Three Goals

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Sophomore forward Laura Scimeca (Cream Ridge, NJ/Allentown) scored two goals and assisted on the other as the Washington College field hockey team defeated visiting Virginia Wesleyan College, 3-0, this afternoon in Chestertown. The Shorewomen improve to 3-3 with the win, while the Marlins slip to 3-3 with the loss.

After a scoreless first half, Scimeca put the Shorewomen ahead with 27:04 left in the second period when she knocked a hard shot into the cage off an assist from junior back Missy Tine (Chestertown, MD/Kent County). With 10:55 to go, Scimeca found junior forward Erin Thomas (Newport News, VA/Denbigh) who scored her first goal of the season to give WC a 2-0 lead. Scimeca completed the scoring when she rifled in a tough-angle shot into the apposite corner of the cage after receiving a pass from senior midfielder Jessica McAdams (Baltimore, MD/Bryn Mawr) with 4:27 on the clock.

The goals were Scimeca's eighth and ninth of the season, respectively, and the assist was her fourth. She has now either scored or assisted on 13 of WC's 19 goals this season (68.4%).

WC senior Christie Allebach (Telford, PA/Souderton Area) and junior Zina Hense (Lewes, DE/Cape Henlopen) each played one half in goal for the Shorewomen. Hense made five saves in the second period.

The Shorewomen return to action Tuesday with a 4:30 p.m. game at fifth-ranked Rowan.
