18, 2002 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College field hockey team dropped its home opener to ninth-ranked Ursinus, 4-3, this afternoon in Chestertown. The Shorewomen slip to 2-3 with the loss, while the Bears improve to 4-1. Ursinus scored the only goal of the first half, with 18:29 on the clock, when Crystal McCarney scored off a feed from Jess Shellaway. Neither team would score again until the finally 20 minutes of the contest, when the two squads combined for six goals. The Shorewomen tied things up with 19:41 left in the game when senior midfielder Jessica McAdams (Baltimore, MD/Bryn Mawr) knocked in a shot from close range off an assist from senior midfielder Julie Phillips (Easton, MD/Easton). WC then grabbed a 2-1 lead with 17:08 left when junior forward Taneil Sisco (Kent County, MD/Kent County) scored an unassisted goal. Ursinus answered at 15:41 when Megan McCormick scored an unassisted goal of her own. The Bears went ahead, 32, with 11:32 left when McCarney scored her second goal of the game, this time off a pass from Amy Midgely. Shore sophomore forward Laura Scimeca (Cream Ridge, NJ/Allentown) tied things up with 5:25 to play by knocking in a penalty stroke for her seventh goal of the season, but the Bears' Sandy Fetterman scored what proved to be the game-winner just 29 seconds later, at 4:56. Ursinus held a 15-12 advantage in shots and a 16-7 edge in penalty corners. The Shorewomen return to action Sunday with a 12:00 p.m. home game against Virginia Wesleyan. Box Score
