Thomas Scores Goal in Loss

SALISBURY, MD -- The Washington College Shorewomen stayed within one goal of the fourth-ranked Salisbury University Sea Gulls for much of the game in today's non-conference field hockey contest, but the Sea Gulls held on and scored a late goal for a 3-1 win. The Shorewomen slipped to 4-6 with the loss, while Salisbury improved to 11-2.

Most of the scoring took place early in the first half. The Sea Gulls got on the board with 30:10 on the clock on a Jess Manzone goal that came off an assist from Erin Budd. Salisbury scored again just 36 seconds later when Brittany Elliott fired home an unassisted marker. The Shorewomen answered with 27:32 to play in the period when junior forward Erin Thomas (Newport News, VA/Denbigh) scored off an assist from junior forward Taneil Sisco (Kent County, MD/Kent County). The score remained 2-1 until Salisbury's Lindsay Elliott scored off an assist from Melissa Webster with 2:30 left in the game.

WC junior goalkeeper Zina Hense (Lewes, DE/Cape Henlopen) made 10 saves in the loss. Senior back Megan Daily (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern) added a defensive save.

The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against Franklin & Marshall.
