24, 2002 GLASSBORO, NJ -- The Washington College field hockey team kept things close with second-ranked Rowan University today until the host Profs erupted for three goals in a span of less than four minutes in the second half en route to a 6-1 victory. The Shorewomen slipped to 3-4 with the loss, while the Profs remained undefeated at 6-0. Rowan got on the board first with 25:52 to play in the first half when Beth Raleigh scored off an assist from Kelly Rose. The Shorewomen tied thing up with 19:17 left in the period when junior forward Erin Thomas (Newport News, VA/Denbigh) scored her second goal of the season off a feed from sophomore forward Laura Scimeca (Cream Ridge, NJ/Allentown), who picked up her team-best fifth assist of the season on the play. The Profs grabbed a 2-1 lead with 8:36 to play before the break when Rose picked up her second of three assists on the day on a goal by Thereze Kunkel. Rowan's Becky Peterson scored off a pass from Jess Wadleigh with 29:01 left in the second half to start the decisive spurt for the Profs. Renee Phelps added an unassisted goal with 27:20 to play and Rose found Peterson for a goal with 25:43 remaining to push the lead to 5-1. Kunkel added an unassisted goal with 16:29 left to round out the scoring. The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with their Centennial Conference opener - a 1:00 p.m. game at Dickinson. Box Score
