5, 2002 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College Shorewomen slipped to 4-5 overall and 1-1 in Centennial Conference play with a 3-2 loss to visiting Muhlenberg this afternoon in Chestertown. Trailing 2-1 at the half, the Shorewomen tied things up in the second period, but the Mules (9-2, 1-1) scored the game-winner with just over two minutes left in regulation. The Shorewomen opened the scoring with 29:16 left in the first when senior back Megan Daily (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern) scored off an assist from sophomore forward Laura Scimeca (Cream Ridge, NJ/Allentown). The Mules tied things up with 16:07 to go in the half on when Katie Thomas found Kristen Bruschi for a goal and then took a 2-1 lead with 9:08 left before the break on a goal by Thomas. WC evened the score at 2-2 with 17:48 left in the second on an unassisted goal by senior midfielder Julie Phillips (Easton, MD/Easton). Bruschi won the game for Muhlenberg off an assist from Alexa Sterbinsky with 2:10 showing on the clock. Washington lost despite holding a 27-10 advantage in shots and a 15-3 advantage in penalty corners. Muhlenberg goalkeeper Josie Fasolino made 10 saves, including seven during the first half, when WC got off 17 shots. The Shorewomen return to action a week from today with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against Bryn Mawr. Box Score
